Upside Down Car Stuck to a Wave of Road

Artist Alex Chinneck is a master of illusions. He first made us believe that a brick house's facade was sliding off and then he made us do a double take with the Covent Garden's floating building. Chinneck is back and this time he's teamed up with Vauxhall Motors to suspend a new Vauxhall Corsa 15 feet in the air while it's still attached to the road.
Alex said, "I try to make everyday situations as extraordinary as they can be. I choose to do this through illusions because I think there is something both optimistic and captivating about defying the realms of possibility. With an effortlessly curling road I hoped to transcend the material nature of tarmac and stone, giving these typically inflexible materials an apparent fluidity."
It took a team of people to pull this off. The artist worked with structural engineers, steel benders, scenic artists, metal workers, carpenters, tarmac layers and road painters to make this red car appear as if it's actually stuck to the upended road.
Called "Pick yourself up and pull yourself together," the surreal sculpture can be seen at the Southbank Centre Car Park, beside The London Eye, until February 25.
